How to take care of your Hair Extensions

There are many kinds of extensions; these instructions are for 100% human hair extensions with keratin bonds provided at The Silva Chair Salon!

Always follow your stylist's instructions when caring for your hair extensions - protect your investment!

Tip #1 - Brush your hair at least once daily

Gently brushing your hair at least once every day will keep your hair extensions free of tangles, which can eventually lead to matting. I recommend brushing your hair before the shower on hair wash days because wet hair tangles easier! Eliminating tangles before you get your hair wet makes life with your extensions much easier!

Tip #2 - Use hair care products your stylist recommends

Using the products your stylist recommends helps keep your hair and extensions healthy and can extend the life of your extensions! You might have a favorite product for your hair, which may still work with the extensions. It's always best to tell your stylist what products you are using and switch to extension-safe products that your stylist recommends when you can. Some products may have ingredients that react negatively with your extensions or the keratin bond.

Tip #3 - Sleep with your hair in a low, loose ponytail or loose braid

Sleeping with your hair in a low ponytail or loose braid will keep your hair from tangling while you sleep, making it easier to brush through your hair in the morning. I prefer a low, loose braid because it keeps my extensions out of my face.

Tip #4 - Don't go to bed with soaking wet hair!

If you prefer to wash your hair at night, dry your hair and the bonds of the extensions as much as possible after washing, and then put your hair in a loose braid to sleep in.

Tip #5 - Don't use ANY oil-based products on or near the bonds of your extensions

Oils slowly soften your keratin bonds, and it can lead to your extensions coming out prematurely. You can still put oils on your ends, but keep the oil on the very ends of your hair so it doesn't slip onto your bonds!

Those are the basics of taking care of your keratin bonded hair extensions!

If you follow these instructions, your extensions will live a long and healthy life!
